Setting Up Custom Domains

Replace the default StackBloom domain with your own branded short link domain. Custom domains like go.yourbrand.com increase trust, improve click-through rates, and keep your brand front and center in every link you share.

Step 1: Go to Custom Domains settings

1

In the URL Shortener, click Settings > Custom Domains. This page lists all domains you have connected to your account, along with their verification status and the number of links using each domain.

  • Custom domains are available on Pro and Business plans
  • You can connect multiple domains — useful for managing different brands or clients
  • Each workspace can have a different default domain

Step 2: Add your domain

2

Click Add Domain and type your subdomain (e.g., go.yourcompany.comor links.yourbrand.com). Using a subdomain is strongly recommended over a root domain as it's simpler to configure and avoids conflicts with your main website.

  • Subdomains like go., l., or links. are common choices
  • Root domain support (e.g., yourcompany.io) is available but requires additional DNS configuration
  • HTTPS is automatically provisioned via Let's Encrypt — no SSL certificate needed
  • Domain names are converted to lowercase automatically

Step 3: Copy the CNAME record provided

3

After adding your domain, StackBloom displays the CNAME record you need to add in your DNS provider. Copy the Name (your subdomain) and Value(pointing to StackBloom's CDN) from the verification panel.

  • The CNAME value looks like cname.stackbloom.io
  • Do not add a period at the end of the CNAME value unless your DNS provider requires it
  • Some DNS providers call this a "Host" and "Points to" field instead of Name/Value
  • TTL can be set to 300 seconds for faster propagation during setup

Step 4: Add the CNAME in your DNS provider

4

Log in to wherever you manage your domain's DNS — typically your domain registrar (Namecheap, GoDaddy, Google Domains) or DNS provider (Cloudflare, Route 53). Add a new CNAME record with the Name and Value copied from StackBloom.

  • Cloudflare: Set the proxy status to DNS Only (grey cloud) during verification, then you can re-enable proxy
  • Namecheap: Use Host Records > CNAME Record type
  • GoDaddy: Manage DNS > Add > CNAME
  • DNS propagation can take anywhere from 5 minutes to 48 hours depending on your provider

Step 5: Verify domain and set as default for new links

5

Return to Settings > Custom Domains and click Verifynext to your domain. StackBloom checks the DNS records and confirms when the domain is live. Once verified, click Set as Default so all new links use your custom domain automatically.

  • Verification typically completes within 15 minutes of adding the CNAME
  • If verification fails, double-check for typos and confirm there are no conflicting A or CNAME records
  • Existing links using the StackBloom default domain continue to work after you add a custom domain
  • You can migrate existing links to your custom domain in bulk from the links list

💡 Tip: Use a short branded domain (3–8 characters) for the most compact links. A domain like go.acme.co creates links such as go.acme.co/sale — short enough to type from memory, clear enough to build brand recognition every time someone sees or shares your link.
